To have an effective program, the AASL School Library Standards for Learners, School Librarians, and School Libraries along with the school curriculum guide the librarian's actions and instruction.
AASL Standards
The AASL Standards have six shared foundations: inquire, include, collaborate, curate, explore, and engage. Key commitments explain the essence of each shared foundation. Each shared foundation has the same four domains, which are think, create, share, and grow. Within each domain, competencies are listed that illustrate the skills and knowledge put into practice. School Curriculum Chart
Topics from the school curriculum are integrated into lessons taught in the library. The curriculum also influences the kinds of resources purchased for the library.
